BigCommerce to Shopify Migration
BigCommerce to Shopify is often a catalog cleanup project hiding inside a platform move. The risk is not usually getting products into Shopify. The risk is losing variant detail, image order, SEO metadata, and old URLs.
Data.Page can convert BigCommerce exports into Shopify-ready files and prepare the redirect map as a one-off migration job.
Contact us about this migrationWhat makes this migration different
BigCommerce stores often have strong product option data, custom fields, categories, brands, and image galleries. Shopify can handle the core catalog well, but the data has to be shaped for Shopify's import format. The earlier you decide what happens to categories, brands, custom fields, and old URLs, the smoother the launch.
Data we normally convert
- Products and variants, including SKU, price, weight, inventory, and option values.
- Product images and image order.
- Brands, categories, product types, and custom fields.
- SEO page titles, meta descriptions, and URL paths.
- Redirects from old product and category URLs to new Shopify URLs.
Field mapping examples
| BigCommerce data | Shopify data | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Product name | Title | Remove duplicated brand names if the brand is shown elsewhere. |
| SKU and option SKU | Variant SKU | Every variant should remain uniquely identifiable. |
| Brand | Vendor or tag | Use vendor if brand is a core merchandising field. |
| Categories | Collections | Map only real collection pages, not administrative buckets. |
| Custom fields | Metafields | Keep useful specs such as material, fit, compatibility, or dimensions. |
A clean migration sequence
- Export products, options, categories, brands, and custom fields from BigCommerce.
- Audit duplicates, missing SKUs, inactive products, and image URLs.
- Choose how Shopify collections should be created.
- Convert the export into Shopify import files.
- Generate redirect files from old paths to new Shopify handles.
- Test import a representative sample before the final import.
Common launch misses
- Old category URLs are forgotten because the product pages were the obvious focus.
- Image galleries import, but the hero image is not the intended first image.
- Custom fields with product specs disappear and support tickets increase after launch.
- Option names change from customer-friendly labels into internal labels.
